The Martian Has Landed

Rajon Rondo is a 4th year point guard, who is close to being the 3rd best point in the entire league. He is locked into a massive contract that he entirely deserves, and is the number one option on an elite team.

There are stumbling blocks with Rondo.

He's a horrible free-throw shooter at a position with traditionally strong charity stripe abilities. 63% for his career (ALTHOUGH, 81% in the playoffs).

His jumpshot is shaky, although it is improving.

He honestly can't shoot threes. What stumbles me about this, is how he rattled off like 12 in a row in the horse competition against KD.

In the current season, he really hasn't improved in these areas. He finished the year averaging 9.8 assists per though, and is finally comfortable running a team where he is barely ever regarded as the best player.
Kevin Garnett isn't what he used to be, Ray Allen has his games, but isn't as steady, and Paul Pierce has always been the kind of player who gets his own buckets. Perkins is a defensive center, Rasheed...is bad, and the rest of the bench is honestly inconsequential. So it isn't like he has a bucket getting machine to get him those assists, he gets them on his own. So tell me how he's only good because he has the big three on his team? If anything he should get more credit for making a washed-up team into a contender and extending the glory of three future hall of famers.

Rondo's evolution this year has been staggering, and mainly in his intangibles. I think of him as a Dwight Howard. Dwight struggles shooting free throws, and is exploited for it. He has developed that little running hook, but still lacks diversity in his post game. These are two major weaknesses, but we still label superman as a superstar, and franchise player

So why NOT Rondo? I understand that he isn't  a game-changing freak athelete, but with that said, we should be able to overlook his free throw shooting (which surprisingly isn't exploited that much), and overall shooting, focus on his ability to lead a team and accept that he is an elite guard.

And he will only continue to get better, look for him to improve his own scoring as the Celtics dismantle and transition.
